On April 22, 2021, the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network (IACN), the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU), and the ARCTICenter (Northern Iowa University) signed two MoUs on Scientific cooperation on Arctic Issues.
The meeting was attended by Embla Eir Oddsdóttir, Director of the IACN, and Dr. Valery Leonidovich Mikheev, Rector of RSHU, Associate Professor Dr. Marya Sergeevna Rozanov, and Dr. Andrey Petrov, Director of the ARCTICenter (Northern Iowa University). The discussion highlighted areas of mutual interests and common goals among the parties and identified priority areas for joint scientific research in the Arctic region. The parties agreed to develop applied scientific and cultural exchanges, scientific research projects, applied research and educational activities on a variety of Arctic issues, including, but not limited to, climate, environmental, and socioeconomic changes in the Arctic, health and wellness, sustainable development of urban and rural (Indigenous) communities. The initial emphasis will be placed on the role of women in the socio-economic development of the Arctic regions in the framework of gender studies.
The Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network is honoured to be part of this collaboration and is looking forward to a fruitful cooperation in the Arctic with the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU) and the ARCTICenter.
